Holy crap! Taking one for the team, pit bull style.

Nicholas Hare,  long time boyfriend of the most recent pit bull victim Michal Nelson stated, on camera, that he does not want the death of Ms. Nelson to color anyone's opinion of pit bulls... because it was an freak accident IT WAS "HER TIME!!! "

NO ACCIDENT! A life taken too soon by ignorance and arrogance. Deaths from dangerous dogs can be prevented. MICHAL NELSON would still be with us on this earth had she chosen not to own dangerous dogs. Now she will be remembered as a victim to her own pets. Her Angel Day is December 13, 2013. She is now free of pain and suffering. Rest in Peace.

WTH?

Please take just a moment to watch this video.

How crazy to you have to be to consider the death of a family member by pit bull attack simply taking one for the team, it was her/his time to go?  I kept thinking about Hare's comment and it just rang a bell. I was sure I had heard it before.  Then it  came to me.  Yes! Nick Faibish's mother said the exact same thing about the death of her 12 year old son in 2005. "It's Nicky's time to go," she said. "When you're born you're destined to go and this was his time."

Quick Cliffs Notes on this particular death.  Maureen Faibish was going out to run errands so she PUT HER SON IN BASEMENT WITH A SHOVEL PROPPED AGAINST THE DOOR and the dogs at liberty in the house.  Here are her words "I put him down there, with a shovel on the door," said Faibish, who had left the boy alone with the dogs on June 3 to run some errands. "He had a bunch of food. And I told him, 'Stay down there until I come back.' Typical Nicky, he wouldn't listen to me."

Here are more quotes  from a 2005 SFGATE article I'm not making this up, I swear " Faibish felt compelled to call The Chronicle, she said, because she was upset by comments in a Saturday column that disparaged family members who own pit bulls."  "Even after the whole thing," she said, "I'm not mad at my dogs. I just love them to death."

Maureen Fabish, mother of Nicholas Faibish who was killed says that her dogs were great family dogs and slept with her children regularly. Here, Fabish looks at poster boards filled with images of Nicholas that were at his funeral. Chronicle Photo/Adam Traum Photo: Adam Traum

It should be noted that the death of Nick Faibish led directly to the mandatory neuter and spay for pit bulls in San Francisco.

This was Rex, killer of 12 year old Nick Faibish.

Pit  bull advocates should be aware that even if they are not particularly troubled by mauling deaths of family members considering the deaths simple fate, normal people are horrified and this is how regulatory laws come to be written.
